IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL READERS of

“WATERCOLOR RIGHT FROM THE START” by HILARY PAGE

Since "Watercolor Right from the Start" was first published in 1992 BY Watson-Guptill publications, new and more lightfast pigments have been introduced into the market. Accordingly, manufacturers of all the major brands have upgraded and re-named their paints to reflect use of the improved pigments. I suggest that you use the newly recommended paints for the demonstrations and color exercises in the book.

The following is a conversion chart showing the original paints named on page 11, and used throughout Watercolor Right from the Start, and the recommended, improved paints that will give you identical results in your paintings

I have used Winsor & Newton "Artists" paints unless otherwise stated. You will notice a column of some letters and numbers after each new paint name. These are the internationally recognized Color Index Names that are displayed on each tube or pan of paint, though you may need a magnifying glass to see them! They are listed so you can find the identical paint in another brand should you wish to do so. It is important to use paints with the exact pigment listed to get equivalent results in your paintings.
